Cluj is a city of cultures, of tolerated, open-minded people who are willing to cooperate with other communities. The Festival of Migration and Human Rights is welcomed specifically for emphasizing the multitude of cultural values and cultural interactions that happen each day in Cluj-Napoca.
The League for Defence of Human Rights- Cluj subsidiary organizes between 23-26th of May, 2013 the Migration and Human Rights Festival (MIDO), 3rd edition, in Cluj-Napoca city, with the participation of the following communities: Tunisia, Morocco, Pakistan, India, Syria, Palestine, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Cuba and Republic of Moldova.
The event emphasizes the cultural values and traditions of immigrant communities from non-EU countries, as well as the integration programs available for them. At the same time, the Festival celebrates interculturalism as a way of building relationships between cultures using education, communication, linguistic pluralism and interaction between the minority population and the majority of it.

Festival Program:
Thursday, 23rd of May. Between 11:00-14.00 – Press Conference and Workshop „The Basis of Islamic Culture”.
Location: Islamic and Cultural League Romania, Cluj Subsidiary. (Islamic Central), 17 Pastorului st.
The activity will enhance a press conference aimed to present the concept and the main activities of the Festival. The press conference will continue with a workshop dealing with the Islamic culture, the Arabic alphabet, calligraphy and grammar, and Coran tejweed reading. There will be a debate of Islam and Arabic world as well. The event will end up with some Arabic traditional food cooked for the participants and the quests.
Friday, 24th of May. Between 15:00-19:00 – Local Seminar: „The right to work of foreign students. Opportunities and constraints in Cluj-Napoca.”
Location: Students’ House of Culture, Room 22
The 3rd Local Seminar within the frame of the project „Migrant in Intercultural Romania” will emphasize the work and employment opportunities that non-community immigrants have in Cluj-Napoca. The seminar aims to bring more useful information for participants regarding the projects of integration in the job market. Moreover, the seminar will present the organizations from Cluj-Napoca working with migrants.

Friday, 24th of May. Between 10.00-13.00 – Intercultural Caravan in Schools.
Location: The Theoretical High school „Nicolae Balcescu”
The event is organized in collaboration with the Cluj County School Inspectorate and the theoretical high school „Nicolae Balcescu”, and is part of the European project called Language Rich Europe. It will inaugurate the experimental project Intercultural caravan in schools, implemented by LADO Cluj. The Intercultural caravan will take place on Friday, 24th of May, within the Nicolae Balcescu high school from Cluj-Napoca.
The workshop’s structure is made up of interactive presentations of cultures and traditions leaded by non-EU citizens, some life stories of intercultural mediators and of other migrant community members, the presentation of the magazines Migrant în România and ACCENT basarabean, different interactive games for pupils in order to learn how to tolerate immigrants, activities for pupils created in order to help them familirize with the languages spoken by non-EU communities.
Saturday 25th of May. Between 19:00-22:00 – Movie night: „The difference enriches me”.
Location: Indigo Restaurant, Piezisa st., no. 10.
The activity will consist of a presentation introducing some short movies that express cultural values, symbols and other important meanings for non-EU communities belonging to the following countries: Palestine, Syria, Pakistan, India, Ecuador, Colombia, Republic of Moldova.
Sunday 26th of May. Between 11:00-17:00. Paintings, traditional objects and photography exhibition.
Location: Casino Central Park
Within this activity, non-UE communities from Cluj-Napoca will exhibit traditional objects, photography, traditional clothes, paintings, jewellery in the hall of the Cazino building from the Central Park in Cluj-Napoca. Participants represent the following countries: Morocco, Tunisia, Pakistan, India, Ecuador/Columbia, Palestine, Syria.
At the exhibition will participate the NGO „European Alternatives” which will present approximately 90 photos on the subject of immigrant life.
Sunday, 26th of May. Between 19:00-23.00 – Intercultural Evening
Location: La gazzete, 1 Calarasilor st, 1st Pavillion, 1st floor.
The activity has 3 sections:
a) Awards Gala: ”Civic Merit” and „ Civic volunteering excellence”.
b) Culinary exhibition: Palestine, Syria, Pakistan, India and Republic of Moldova, Romania.
c) Traditional dances and songs from Pakistan, India, Cuba, Mexic, Republic of Moldova /Romania.
