It is my pleasure to write an article about myself and my life in Romania!
I first came to Romania in May 2010, after I had got my visa from the Romanian Embassy in Cairo. The main reason for coming to Romania was to join my Romanian wife, after having married her in my country (Egypt), to ensure family reunification.
After I got my 3-month visa I arrived to Romania, and stayed with my wife’s family in their house, situated in Apahida, near Cluj Napoca city. Afterwards I had to get a residence card to allow me to stay legally in Romania. Indeed, I prepared the necessary documents for that and finally got a residence card, as a result of the procedures and inspection carried out by the competent authorities in Romania.
After that I started looking for a job so that I could live a stable life with my family. So, I started facing many difficulties including:
1 – I do not know the Romanian language, neither spoken nor written.
2 – The ignorance of most companies and employers regarding the labor laws in Romania, especially expatriate labor laws in Romania.
3- Differences in customs, traditions and religions.
The first problem (not speaking Romanian) was solved by the organization LADO, the human rights branch of Cluj-Napoca. The role of this organization is to help the expatriates in Romania through projects, consulting and social assistance provided by the members of the organization. One of the activities offered by LADO is a project to teach Romanian language, in order to help expatriates in Romania to integrate in the Romanian society.
Indeed, I had to attend the school studying the Romanian language, in coordination with the organization. It had a big role in teaching me the Romanian language and integrating in the Romanian society.
It should be noted that throughout this period, beginning my arrival until August 2011 (the date when I started to work in Romania), I did not succeed in getting a job, in spite of my attempts and ongoing research in all fields. That was the second problem that I had faced in Romania.
In August 2011 I succeeded in getting a job in one international company (Bufab Romania) because of excellent management, good study of labor laws in Romania, and knowing well how to give a very good treatment for migrants in Romania. Special Thanks to the Director General, who helped me a lot to get this job and has always supported me, since the beginning of my work in the company.
It should be mentioned that the organization LADO Cluj-Napoca has done a project on professional education and web design, aimed to help any of the migrants in Romania to learn a profession which could help them to find suitable jobs. I am already being involved in this project and currently studying and learning at this course.
Finally, I would like to say that I have a job in Romania and I live a simple, happy and quiet life with my wife and my little son (Omar). Despite the difficulties of life in Romania and the different customs, traditions and religions, I hope everything in my life will soon be okay.
